2020 Census of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries

The census scope covered agricultural activities (crop and animal production), forestry and fishery (aquaculture and capture fisheries activities). A Community Survey was carried out together with the 2020 CAFF. The following thresholds were applied for the agricultural household, forestry household and fishery household respectively.

Agricultural household

A household that engages in one of the following agricultural businesses
  • A household directly cultivating paddy fields or dry fields of 1,000㎡ (10a) or more as of Dec. 1, 2020
  • A household of which sales of directly produced agricultural and livestock products exceeded KRW 1.2 million during the past year (Dec. 1, 2019 – Nov. 30, 2020)
  • A household that owns livestock worth at least KRW 1.2 million as of Dec 1, 2020

Forestry household

A household that engages in one of the following forestry businesses
  • A household that owns at least 30,000㎡ (3 ha) of forest as of Dec. 1, 2020, and engaged in forestation (tree planting, afforestation, thinning, logging, etc.) during the past 5 years (Dec. 1, 2019 – Nov. 30, 2020)
  • A household that is engaged in logging or nursery (cultivating seedlings for forestation) during the past year (Dec. 1, 2019 – Nov. 30, 2020)
  • A household of which sales of directly produced forestry products including forest product picking exceeded KRW 1.2 million during the past year (Dec. 1, 2019 – Nov. 30, 2020)

Marine fishery household

A household that engages in one of the following marine fishery businesses
  • A household that engaged in fishing (fishing boat, fishing without gear, free diving, other fishing) or aquaculture for more than one month over the past year (December 1, 2019 – November 30, 2020) for the purpose of sales
  • A household that earned over KRW 1.2 million by selling fishery products that were directly caught or farmed over the past year (December 1, 2019 – November 30, 2020)
  • household of which the estimated value for farming fishery products exceeded KRW 1.2 million as of December 1, 2020

Marine fishery refers to fishing (catching or collecting aquatic animals and plants) and aquaculture (cultivating aquatic animals and plants) in adjacent seas and coastal seas.

Inland fishery household

A household that engages in one of the following inland fishery businesses
  • A household that engaged in fishing (fishing boat, other fishing) or aquaculture for more than one month over the past year (December 1, 2019 - November 30, 2020) for the purpose of sales
  • A household that earned over KRW 1.2 million by selling fishery products that were directly caught or farmed over the past year (December 1, 2019 - November 30, 2020)
  • A household of which the estimated value for farming fishery products exceeded KRW 1.2 million as of December 1, 2020

Inland fishery refers to fishing (catching or collecting aquatic animals and plants) and aquaculture (cultivating aquatic animals and plants) in river, reservoir, lake, and brackish water (where seawater and fresh water come together) areas.

Administrative unit Ri

An administrative unit classified by city and district ordinances for the administrative convenience of Eup and Myeon areas where residents live

Regional census questionnaires contain information about the current status of administrative unit Ri, amenities, agricultural, forestry, and fishery facilities, and rural exchange and economic organizations. These questionnaires are prepared by the head of each administrative unit Ri on behalf of the region.
